Vistelier

An engine for interior visualisation. From a room described in Python it produces renders, a browser walkthrough, floor plans with a shopping list and a cost estimate, and an Android app opens the walkthrough offline.

The challenge

Before a renovation you have to decide on the layout, style and purchases, and all you can see is the plan from the unit sheet. Single renders don't show what it is like to walk through the flat, and a cost estimate kept in a separate spreadsheet drifts away from the design after every change. On top of that, the first interior was visualised from scratch, and fixes for the second had to be made twice.

The solution

One engine for every new interior. A project holds only data: dimensions, furniture modelled on products from Polish shops, camera shots and narration texts. From that the engine builds the Blender scene and renders and bakes light on a cloud GPU. The scene becomes a browser walkthrough with light switches, doors, drawers, night mode and a narrator. It also produces A3 sheets, a plan with a shopping list, and a cost estimate with the status of every price. The same shot can be compared in several styles, and the flat in several layouts. The Spacery app downloads the walkthrough to a phone and opens it offline.

Scope & technology

The engine and three interiors built on it: a home office under a sloped roof, a 37 m² flat in six styles (an estimate of 112 items, 85 prices checked in shops) and a flat in five layouts. Python and Blender (Cycles), rendering and baking on RunPod with a machine the engine creates and always deletes, under time and cost limits; renders of three layouts plus walkthroughs cost $0.63. A scene fingerprint without rendering as a change check, a state file for outputs, and versions in git. A three.js walkthrough with baked light per lamp group and a 5 cm collision grid. SVG drawings printed to PDF with Chromium, an estimate with XLSX export. The Spacery app in Flutter: downloads only changed files and serves the walkthrough from a local server on the phone.
